Berluti Brings Le Petit Prince to Life in Leather

Fashion
BERLUTI, #02-12

Literature converges with craftsmanship as Berluti enters into creative dialogue with Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's timeless classic, Le Petit Prince.

Drawing on the author's sketchbooks, the Maison does not illustrate the story but translates it. The drawings leave the page and take form across fourteen pieces in leather and textile, with five further designs available to order. Each is crafted in Venezia leather and brought to life through laser engraving, tattooing, Patina and watercolour-inspired brushwork. The Un Jour bag sets white sketches against a Cacao Intenso ground. The Espace long wallet carries the sketches in lines that are familiar yet almost fleeting. The Jagua cardholder displays the elephant drawing, laser-engraved in Marrone Intenso. On the Alessandro lace-up, a rose stem is worked sotto pelle until its contours emerge in relief, as though growing beneath the leather.

Materials, touch and familiar rituals give the tale new meaning in everyday life. As Saint-Exupéry wrote, "What is essential is invisible to the eye."
